We are looking for a Paralegal in the Lexington, Kentucky area to provide free legal technical assistance directly to landowners in eastern and central Kentucky. The Paralegal helps landowners acquire a clear title to their property, does legal client management, and assists in organizing free will-writing clinics and educational events. Along with the Director of Land & Revenues, the Paralegal will design and run programming for LiKEN’s free assistance program for heirs’ property owners in eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia, the Appalachian Heirs’ Property Coalition.
A successful Paralegal is a meticulous recordkeeper with excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills as well as a passion for serving Kentuckians. They have foresight and are able to respond flexibly and creatively to unexpected events. They have a sound working knowledge of property records and are able to manage clients records in an organized system. Moreover, they are deeply committed to building caring and mutually respectful relationships within LiKEN and with our community constituents and collaborators.
Paralegal Responsibilities:
Work directly with families in eastern and central Kentucky to assist them in acquiring a clear title to their heirs’ property (inherited property with tangled title)
Manage client data (documents, notes, family trees) and track client status
Create chain of title reports
Work alongside attorney to assist clients in establishing LLCs
Prepare documents, including contracts and notice letters
Assist Director of Land & Revenues in facilitating information sessions for families who own heirs’ property
Assist Director of Land & Revenues with organizing and running Free Will-Writing Clinics and Heirs’ Property Information Sessions in eastern Kentucky
Paralegal Requirements:
A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
3 years' relevant experience.
A good working knowledge of property records and data management practices
Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Computer literacy, and knowledge of Google, Microsoft suite, and related software. No knowledge of legal client management software needed
Excellent organizational and management skills.

This is a full time, salaried position with excellent benefits. Preferred residence is in the vicinity of our main office in Lexington, Kentucky (1815 Nicholasville Rd, Lexington, KY 40503). A hybrid schedule is acceptable so long as they are physically in-office for three days of the business week. Yearly in-person, all-LiKEN meetings are mandatory.
Compensation: Pay will be commensurate with the experience, skills, and qualifications that the candidate brings to the position in the range of $45,000-50,000.
Benefits: This job includes 6 paid holidays, 2 weeks paid vacation, sick days, 50% of health insurance cost, retirement account with 3% matching contribution.
